Uefa Women’s Champions League: Magda Eriksson’s preview with tie-by-tie analysis and the key players
From ‘the Casemiro of women’s football’ to Putellas’ replacement at Barcelona, i columnist and Chelsea defender Magda Eriksson explains what to look out for in the last eight
I remember clearly how I felt in springtime last year when the latter stages of the Women’s Champions League were unfolding. There were so many cool games that it was inspiring but Chelsea weren’t part of it, after our elimination in the group stage, and I was so frustrated to be missing out. This time we are involved: we won our group and now have the challenge of facing the defending champions Lyon and I can’t wait.
These past two seasons have been amazing with the group-stage format and DAZN broadcasting and attendance records set – and also for the quality of football. This season, it feels like it’s got better with some more competitive games and sides from other countries doing well against the old, established teams.
You don’t get a bigger powerhouse than Lyon, the holders and eight-time champions, but I feel we’ve responded really well after our Conti Cup final defeat by Arsenal a few weeks ago. Sometimes you need a defeat to take a step back and reset and ahead of this tough period, it’s been a good wake-up call and we bounced back well in our top-of-the table meeting with Man United and have now won three in a row.
The fact the second leg is back at Stamford Bridge is another plus – the last game we played there we beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 and it’s starting to feel like a fortress for us as we’ve played there three times and had three wins.
Here is my analysis of the challenge we face against Lyon as well as the three other quarter-finals:
Lyon vs Chelsea
When we lost to them in the 2019 semi-final, we got close but they were so strong. Right now, though, it’s hard to analyse them as they’ve had injuries and while some players are back – Dzsenifer Marozsan, Ellie Carpenter and Amel Majri – you wonder what shape they’ll be in.
I’ve also seen footage of Ada Hegerberg in training and it would be massive for them if the Norway striker was able to contribute.
What impresses me about Lyon when they’re on their game is their aggression. I remember how in the final last year they pressed Barcelona into a lot of mistakes in their build-up. We have that ability as well but have to be aware of this.
Game-changer: Sam Kerr
Chelsea have showed that we now have a deep squad and aren’t reliant on any one player but if I have to name someone, I’d say the threat of Sam Kerr could be key.
The Australia striker is such a versatile player – not just extremely good in the box but also on the counter and on the first press too
Bayern Munich vs Arsenal
Like our tie against Lyon, it’s hard to pick a favourite here. What impresses me about Arsenal is the aggression and intensity across the whole team. They have 11 players who are all on the same page, defending together and running for each other really aggressively. They’ve always had good ball players but have added an aggressive high press to their possession game and it’s extremely hard to get out of it. They’re a team in form too, as we saw in our Conti Cup final defeat.
As for Bayern, their strength is in their collective playing style. They’re a solid, strong team with a core of players who have been there for some time. And in Georgia Stanway they’ve got not just a goalscorer but someone who sets the tone with her aggression and helps to build their possession-based style.
Game-changer: Stina Blackstenius
Caitlin Foord is an aggressive, physical player who also has the technical ability to take out a player in a one v one and make something happen. However, I’d say Stina Blackstenius, my Sweden teammate. Like Sam Kerr, she’s a very good counterattacker and this is important in these big games where teams are so well organised that it’s often only on the counter that you can create big chances.
Roma vs Barcelona
It’s exciting to see a new Italian team do well but Barcelona just look too good for them, especially over two legs. They’ve been without their captain, Alexia Putellas, but have found ways of working around it and have changed their style to be a little more direct at times.
I’ve heard they take defeats as seriously as we do at Chelsea so every time they lose they really evaluate what’s not been good enough. Their players are getting more mature and they’ve got a striker in rich scoring form in Asisat Oshoala. They’re been in three of the last four finals and they’re probably the favourites to win it.
Game-changer: Aitana Bonmati
I like the way Bonmati has stepped up in the absence of Alexia. She is exceptional and does so much good work creating things for the team. She might not be the one scoring all the goals but she is behind most of them.
PSG vs Wolfsburg
When we played Paris Saint-Germain in the group stage, you could see they were really missing Marie-Antoinette Katoto, their injured France striker.
They struggled to create chances and not once did I, as a defender, feel not in control. Against the top teams there can be periods of a game where you feel overwhelmed – 10 minutes where they come at you in waves and it feels overwhelming as you try to work out how to stop it.
PSG couldn’t do that to us and over the two games they had just four shots on target so I’d make Wolfsburg the favourites. The German team are strong and aggressive – and the fact they had a loss recently in their league should mean there’ll be no complacency.
Game-changer: Lena Oberdorf
Oberdorf is the Casemiro of the women’s game. She’s strong and extremely aggressive and will put in a couple of early tackles to set the tone. Her attitude spreads through the team. She’s inspiring to watch and is someone who seems to plays better the bigger the occasion.

UEFA's March Madness
Bit of a misnomer because the UEFA Women's Champions League knock-out rounds will continue through the final in May, but on the eve of the most exciting competitions in professional women's football at a time when it's still wildly accessible, it felt appropriate to use the moniker.
Here's a quick rundown of what's kicking off tomorrow, in the midsts of one of the most exciting months for women's sport in general.
What's Happening
The Women's Champions League! Which is the ultimate tournament for professional football teams in Europe. If you're completely unfamiliar, there was previously a group stage to get to this point, but I'm going to focus on what's coming next rather than explain what came before (see here if info about early stages is of interest).
Essentially, what's left is a traditional knock out tournament, starting from quarterfinals, except that each head-to-head match-up happens over the course of two games, rather than one. So even if a team loses the first game in a match-up against one team, they'll have a chance to make it to the semifinals if they respond by beating their competitors by an overall scoreline on aggregate over both games.
Here's the teams left and the match-ups for the two quarterfinal legs and who they'll match up against in the seminfinals:
Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal VS Paris Saint Germain vs. Wolfsburg
AS Roma vs. Barcelona VS Olympique Lyonnais vs. Chelsea
When is it Happening
The first leg is TOMORROW (21 March)!
Arsenal play at Bayern at 18:45 CET (17:45 UK / 13:45 EST) and Roma host Barcelona at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK / 16:00 EST)
Then on Wednesday (22 March):
Lyon hosts Chelsea with kick-off at 18:45 CET (17:45 UK / 13:45 EST), Wolfsburg play at PSG from 21:00 CET (20:00 UK / 16:00 EST)
The second round is next week, following a similar pattern but with the previous home team playing away (and Wednesday / Thursday match nights):
On Wednesday (29 March):
Barcelona host Roma from 18:45 CET (17:45 UK / 13:45 EST) and Arsenal play away at Bayern at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK / 16:00 EST)
On Thursday (30 March):
Wolfsburg host PSG at 18:45 CET (17:45 UK / 13:45 EST) and Chelsea host Lyon with kick-off at 21:00 CET (20:00 UK / 16:00 EST)
How to Watch
This is one of the most exiciting things about this tournament at the moment--it's widly accessible as DAZN has a deal that includes streaming for free on Youtube through this year's competition! DAZN will continue to hold the rights going forward, but it won't be free, so get that easy access while it's hot.
What to Watch For
There are a lot of great guides, analysis and videos about the women's champions league quarter finals available that really break down the match-ups, but to keep it simple, here are some of my hot takes:
Match-Up to Watch
Honestly, all of them should be fun (although Roma vs. Barcelona is definitely David vs. Goliath vibes), but it's Chelsea vs. Lyon for me. Lyon are the winningest team in this competition in history, while the Champion's League is the one major trophy Chelsea haven't won. This season, Lyon have had injury woes, but are starting to get some key players back (notably, Ada Hegerberg may be fit for some minutes for this game), while Chelsea have had some key players missing recently (when will Pernille Harder & Fran Kirby return from war?). They matched-up in a pre-season friendly back in August with Lyon coming out on top on PKs, but a lot has changed since then. Really hoping for a thrilling two-game series from these two squads.
Players to Watch
So, so many, but to keep it short and sweet to one per team:
Bayern: Georgia Stanway
This is a lil cheeky given that this is a German squad and I'm picking and English player, but Stanway's move to the Frauen Bundesliga this year has gone exceptionally well and she's hitting a peak in her career so far. Will be really interesting to see if the confidence she's been playing with continues into this round of the competition.
Arsenal: Kim Little
I love Kim Little. She has been a constant for Arsenal in an up-and-down season and does whatever her team needs as a captain and midfielder. To a certain extent, how Captain Little goes, so does Arsenal, and if she can dictate the game with the rest of the Gunner's midfield, Bayern will be in trouble.
Roma: Valentina Giacinti
Roma is the team with the most to prove and least to lose, as the're a bit of the tournament darlings and are up against favourites Barceona, and I honestly don't know much about their roster, but I do know Giacinti's name and that she's a fun striker!
Barcelona: Asisat Oshoala
There are so many to pick from in this squad, but Oshoala is just an incredible striker who's just come back from injury and is already in amazing form. Barcelona is generally stacked but if their number 20 gets going, watch out.
Lyon: Delphine Cascarino
Similar to Barca, Lyon have a wealth of talent, and in a season of injury woes, Cascarino has continued to be a terror for defenses on the wing. As the squad starts to come back from injury, she'll continue to be essential and be a problem for opponents.
Chelsea: Lauren James
The English youngster has made a splash this season in the Women's Super League and expectations are high for that to continue across the European competition. She's incredible with the ball at here feet, and brings something different to a Chelsea squad that sometimes needs a spark of creativity and flair. At times, honestly outrageous.
PSG: Ashley Lawrence
Have to give some credit to defenders, and Ashley Lawrence is one of the best outside backs in the game. While PSG has been up and down this season, Lawrence is consistently consistent and will be essential to their chances in the tournament.
Wolfsburg: Lena Oberdorf
With the caveat that she's recently had a knee injury so may be limited in the quarterfinals, Oberdorf is perhaps the most exciting young player in women's football in Europe right now. She's made the defensive midfield role something to be feared and can disrupt the opposition through sheer game intelligence and anticipation. Since she's potentially limited, will also mention Ewa Pajor, who has had a great season and is electric up front.
That's it for now! Maybe will send a mid-quarterfinal review, but don't hold your breath! Happy March!

Team news:
Uncertainty continues to surround the fitness of Tammy Abraham, who missed the draw with Bournemouth due to an ankle injury and has flown to Barcelona to consult a specialist regarding the problem.
Lampard remains hopeful that the England international will not be sidelined for the long term, but he is unlikely to be risked in this game with Giroud and Batshuayi.
Tuesday's match is also expected to come too soon for Kante. who continues to struggle with a muscle injury but could be ready in time for the weekend.
Hudson-Odoi may be held back for the weekend too, while Pulisic remains sidelined for the hosts.
Lampard has a decision to make regarding his goalkeeper, with Willy having played in the previous FA Cup games before usurping Kepa as first choice.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be hoping to welcome Joe Gomez back into the fold after the centre-back missed the Watford defeat with a slight knock.
Gomez's involvement could also depend on the level of Klopp's rotation, though, having used the FA Cup to hand opportunities to young players so far this season.
Milner may be in contention to lend his experience after missing the last two games with a muscle problem, while Keita will undergo a fitness test on his slight hip problem.
Captain Jordan Henderson remains out due to a hamstring injury, though, and Shaqiri and Clyne are both longer-term absentees.

Match facts:
Liverpool's dreams of an 'Invincible' season were not just ended on Saturday, they were shattered in stunning fashion as relegation-threatened Watford stormed to a deserved 3-0 win at Vicarage Road.
It was a result which sent shockwaves around football - the biggest margin of victory for a team in the relegation zone against top of the table since 1985 - and Klopp may hope that it also sends shockwaves throughout his squad.
Liverpool have done an admirable job of avoiding complacency despite the destination of the Premier League title being all-but secured for some time now, but Saturday showed the first signs of it creeping in.
Klopp insisted that he did not see the result coming, but in truth Liverpool's performance level has dipped since the international break, with narrow wins over Norwich City and West Ham United as well as defeats to Atletico Madrid and now Watford.
However, it is important to keep the defeat in context and there will certainly be no overreaction from inside the Liverpool camp given that they still boast a 22-point lead at the top of the table and were on the joint-longest winning streak and second longest unbeaten run in English top-flight history going into the weekend.
Klopp always maintained that an unbeaten campaign was not the goal for Liverpool, but a treble-winning season will be and those hopes will be tested this month ahead of Tuesday's match and the Champions League last 16 second leg against Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool have worked their way through the FA Cup without giving many of their stars much game time so far, beating Everton in the third round before overcoming Shrewsbury Town via a replay - the second game of which was with their youngest ever starting lineup.
The Reds have not won this competition since the 'Steven Gerrard final' of 2006 and are already enjoying their best FA Cup run since 2014-15, and they are likely to field some of the more recognised first-team players for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Both Klopp and the players themselves will demand a response to the Watford defeat whoever plays as they look to avoid falling to successive losses for the first time since January 2019.
If they are to bounce back immediately then they will need to rediscover their form at both ends of the field; they had only one shot on target at Vicarage Road and have now conceded five goals in their last two league games - as many as they had in their previous 14.
The Reds have conceded 11 goals in their past five domestic cup away games, though, and have lost their last two matches on the road across all competitions, which is as many defeats as they had suffered in their previous 20.
Chelsea's home record is not exactly formidable either, though, with the Blues having suffered eight defeats at Stamford Bridge this season - their highest tally since 1985-86.
The most recent of those was a particularly chastening 3-0 lesson at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week, which was their heaviest ever home European defeat and their biggest in any competition since January 2018.
A visit from the world, European and soon-to-be English champions is arguably the last thing Frank Lampard's side need, then, although this is perhaps the most vulnerable the Reds have looked all season.
Chelsea are not best-placed to take advantage of that, though, having won just one of their last five games and two of their last eight.
Did you know? The sailors aboard Vasco de Gama’s ships gave the coconut its name. They called it “Coco”, named after a grimacing face or hobgoblin. The brown, hairy husk and three face-like dimples made them think the seed looked like a sort of spirit. When the “coco” came to England, the suffix of nut was added and that’s how the name came about.

More coverage via the Associated Press
A look at what’s happening in European soccer on Sunday:
ENGLAND
Leicester continues its defense of the FA Cup away to Nottingham Forest in the fourth round boosted by the return of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho from the African Cup of Nations. Nampalys Mendy is still out in Cameroon, though, with his Senegal side in the final on Sunday against Egypt. Wesley Fofana, Jamie Vardy, Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne and Ricardo Pereira remain out injured. Second-tier Forest ousted Arsenal last month. New Liverpool signing Luis Diaz might only be on the bench for the visit of Cardiff. Jürgen Klopp’s side has already reached one final this season — with Chelsea awaiting in the climax to the League Cup on Feb. 27. Fifth-tier Boreham Wood faces a tough match at Bournemouth.
SPAIN
Barcelona hosts Atlético Madrid in a fight for fourth place in the Spanish league and the last Champions League spot. Xavi Hernández has included Ousmane Dembélé in his Barcelona squad despite the winger’s refusal to sign a new contract or secure a move to a new club in the winter transfer window. Barcelona’s new signings, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traoré, could make their debuts against Atlético. Leader Real Madrid welcomes Granada and third-place Real Betis faces Villarreal. Midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could make his debut for Villarreal after his loan from Tottenham. Real Sociedad visits Valencia trying to stop its slide down the standings. The Basque Country club has only one win in its last eight league games.
FRANCE
Runaway league leader Paris Saint-Germain has a point to prove when it visits defending champion Lille, having lost and drawn against the northern side last season without scoring a goal. PSG is 10 points ahead of second-place Marseille and 11 clear of third-place Nice, which is at home to struggling Clermont. Lille has improved after a poor start to the season but is only midtable heading into the game and has conceded 30 goals in 22 games — seven more than it did all last season. PSG will be without striker Mauro Icardi because of a minor foot injury. He was ineffective and had a poor game in Monday night’s French Cup quarterfinal defeat against Nice.
GERMANY
Borussia Dortmund is under pressure from above and below when it hosts Bayer Leverkusen – from above as Bayern Munich stretched its lead to nine points on Saturday, and from below as Leverkusen is third, eight points behind Dortmund. Dortmund will be without the injured Erling Haaland but American forward Gio Reyna could return after missing 25 games through an injury sustained on international duty last September. Leverkusen’s attack is its best ever in the Bundesliga (49 goals in 20 games) and coach Gerardo Seoane appears to have addressed the team’s defensive frailties. Athletic Bilbao only use local players / Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty ImagesBeing in charge of Athletic Club comes with the caveat of only signing players from the Basque region - otherwise known as its cantera policy. It is the ultimate home-grown challenge.
Gianluigi Buffon is back with Parma / Nicolò Campo/Getty ImagesParma are the epitome of cool because of the cult teams they had during the 1990s. They've had several financial meltdowns over the years and are yet to properly recover from the most recent six years ago. They have been back to Serie A after starting out in Serie D in 2015, but relegation last season means starting 2021/22 in Serie B.
Malmo are Sweden's representatives in the Champions League / David Lidstrom/Getty ImagesSweden has produced countless outstanding footballers over the decades and their national team is a staple of the knockout rounds at international tournaments. Yet their club sides have fallen behind.Malmo have flown the flag in the Champions League a few times in recent years, including this season, and remain the only Swedish club to have played in the final - but that was nearly 45 years ago.
Famalicao are Portuguese minnows / Quality Sport Images/Getty ImagesWith a stadium holding barely more than 5,000, Famalicao are Portugal's minnows and are arguably punching above their weight just being in the Primeira Liga alongside the likes of Porto, Benfica and Sporting CP.Success in Portugal is a notoriously closed club. Only five teams have ever been crowned champions, with two of those just one-hit wonders. Adding a sixth, especially a tiny club like Famalicao, would be historic.
Restore Independiente's glroy days / Marcelo Endelli/Getty ImagesHaving won it seven times, Independiente are the most successful club in the history of the Copa Libertadores. But the last of those titles was back in 1984 and the modern hype is for Boca Juniors and River Plate instead. Why not build a team capable of restoring the glory days? You could even try and persuade Sergio Aguero back - he left for Europe when he was 18 and has said in real life he would like to return.
1860 Munich have disappeared into the shadows / Christof Koepsel/Getty ImagesFounded in 1860, obvious when you think about it, 1860 Munich are one of Europe's most historic football clubs. They've been German champions, won domestic and European trophies, but things haven't been good.1860, now completely overshadowed by city rivals Bayern, haven't been in the Bundesliga since 2004 and were briefly in Germany's fourth tier recently. They're now back in tier three, but can you take then back to the top?
Paris FC split from Paris Saint-Germain in 1972 / DAMIEN MEYER/Getty ImagesUnlike other European capitals like London or Madrid, which have numerous top flight football clubs, Paris has just one: Paris Saint-Germain.But Paris FC exist as a result of a split from PSG in 1972 and have been a longstanding fixture of France's lower leagues. Currently in Ligue 2, they have previously threatened promotion to Ligue 1 and French football needs a top flight Paris derby.
Malaga have fallen on hard times since their 2013 peak / SOPA Images/Getty ImagesRemember when Malaga were in the Champions League quarter-finals and on the verge of reaching the semis? It was only as recently as 2013 but decline since those brief glory years have left them in Spain's second tier. The entire first-team squad was released in 2020 to stave off insolvency. There's rarely a blank canvas like it in football.
Hibernian were Scotland's third best club in 2020/21 / Callum Landells/Getty ImagesThe challenge is simple: break the Old Firm dominance of Scottish football. The reality is probably quite a bit harder but worth a good go.It was 1985 the last time a club other than Rangers or Celtic was crowned champions in Scotland. That was Aberdeen led by a young Alex Ferguson.Hibernian were comfortably third in the Scottish Premiership last season so are probably your best bet.
Sutton United are the newest club in FIFA 22 / Christopher Lee/Getty ImagesSutton are the newest addition to the EFL, so taking them further up the English leader ladder would be an ultimate rags to riches tale. This is the first season they have been included in a FIFA game.
Forest Green are a completely unique club / Pete Norton/Getty ImagesForest Green are a unique side that deserve plenty of attention. They became the world's first vegan club in 2015, before they had even reached the EFL, and have kitted out their stadium with eco-friendly innovations. The New Lawn sadly isn't available in FIFA 22, but the club's jazzy home and away kits are not ones to miss.
Make Rochdale interesting / Nathan Stirk/Getty ImagesMake an extremely unremarkable club...remarkable.Rochdale once spent 26 consecutive seasons in the EFL's bottom division without getting promoted or relegated. They've recently had a spell in League One but are back in League Two for the 2021/22 season.Yet this is still the club that had had big names like Rickie Lambert, Grant Holt and Adam Le Fondre pass through in the past.
Blackburn have been out of the Premier League for too long / Alex Livesey/Getty ImagesBlackburn remain one of only seven clubs that have held the Premier League trophy aloft since the new competition was formed in 1992.Yet Rovers haven't been in the top flight for 10 consecutive seasons following their relegation in 2012 and it's about time they returned.Plus there's Chilean sensation Ben Brereton Diaz to manage.
Generations of Nottingham Forest fans haven't seen their club successful / James Williamson - AMA/Getty ImagesTwo-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest haven't played top flight football for over 20 years since their 1999 relegation from the Premier League. What's more, a good number of those years have seen them finish in the bottom half of the Championship.Restoring the glory days is first and foremost getting back in to the Premier League. Then it climbing the table, challenging domestically and, perhaps ultimately, reigning Europe once more.
Benfica have been cursed for 60 years / PATRICIA DE MELO MOREIRA/Getty ImagesBreak the curse of Bela Guttmann.Achieving domestic success with the Portuguese giants shouldn't be an issue, but the club hasn't experienced European success since 1962 after supposedly refusing legendary coach Guttmann a pay rise.He is alleged to have 'cursed' the club, vowing that they wouldn't be European champions again for 100 years. Given that they have lost five European Cup finals since then, the 'curse' has stuck.
Ajax are a hugely popular club / BSR Agency/Getty ImagesAjax remain one of the most popular clubs in Europe. Historically, they are also tremendously successful but their last Champions League title was back in 1995, although they came close to the final in 2019.Build your own Ajax golden generation and make Amsterdam the heart of Europe once more.
AC Milan need someone to deliver success / Marco Luzzani/Getty ImagesFor being the second most successful club in Champions League history and the third most successful club in Serie A history, AC Milan are currently nowhere near the status they want to be.A sleeping giant for the past decade, the Rossoneri are underdogs in Europe when they were once feared and it doesn't sit right.
Tottenham have been starved of success / Marc Atkins/Getty ImagesA major trophy of any description has eluded Spurs since 2008. They have played in finals in that time but the drought goes on.In 2021, having missed the trophy boat under previous manager Mauricio Pochettino, there is also a rebuilding project to complete, which will make any future successes all the more sweet.
Arsenal are in the midst of an exciting rebuilding project / Clive Rose/Getty ImagesArsenal fans demand success and it will take a skilled manager to deliver it, successfully rebuilding a squad capable of the ultimate goals. It didn't happen right away, but the Gunners rather unsurprisingly fell apart after Arsene Wenger left the club. The rebuild has started and taking over the Emirates Stadium means inheriting some potential, but the process is going to be long and ongoing to yield real success.Arsenal haven't won the Premier League since 2004, haven't seriously challenge since 2008, and have never won the Champions League. Ronaldo and Manchester United dreaming of 'European champion'... Barsa vs Munich big match 먹튀검증

The UEFA Champions League, which determines the best European club footballers, begins again.
Manchester United, who dream of becoming European champions with Cristiano Ronaldo, are the first to enter the Star Wars. Manchester United will take their first steps on the Champions League stage for the 2021-22 season through the Young Boys away on the 15th at 1:45 am Korean time.
Manchester United succeeded in reinforcing the squad by signing Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid defender Rafael Varane. He also surprises the club's best star, Ronaldo, and challenges the Champions League title for the first time in 14 years since 2008.
Ronaldo, who scored multiple goals in his Premier League comeback last weekend, is the top scorer in the Champions League with 134 goals. He was initially expected to take a break to balance his stamina, but is ready to further boost his record by being included in the Young Boys away roster.
In Group F, it is interesting to see if Manchester United, competing against the Young Boys, Villarreal and Atalanta, will be able to report their first win in Bern, Switzerland.
A big match is also scheduled from the first round of the group stage. The first leg of Group E match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich at 4 a.m. following Manchester United's match. The match between the two teams that have not yet lost in the league is a preview of the final.
The last meeting between Barcelona and Munich was in the Champions League quarterfinals of the 2019-20 season in August of last year. The results were shocking. At the time, Munich defeated Barcelona with a record score of 8-2 and lifted the trophy by defeating Olympique Lyonne and Paris Saint-Germain in turn.
Barcelona dreams of revenge for a humiliating defeat. The team's icon, Lionel Messi, has left the team, but new faces like Memphis Depay and Luke the Dragon have joined to form a whole new team. Indeed, it is attracting attention whether Barcelona can succeed in revenge against Munich, which is showing off its powerful firepower this season as well.
The match between the Young Boys and Manchester United, where Ronaldo is expected to appear, as well as the revenge match between Barcelona and Munich, will be exclusively broadcast live on Spotify On and Spotify Now on the morning of the 15th.

Liverpool Football Tickets: Jurgen Klopp's new Liverpool football club’s midfield might explain Gini Wijnaldum decision
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is readying a midfield trio that fans only saw once last season. If there was a game that encapsulated Liverpool's season last term, it would be October's 2-2 draw with Everton. One of the fiercest and controversial derbies in years, the Reds headed across Stanley Park for the 237th edition of a local skirmish that seemingly had everything.

Goals, red cards, injuries, and, of course, VAR drama. It also had the lesser-spotted Liverpool midfield of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho. For all the headlines that followed the game around Virgil van Dijk's season-ending injury, the intervention to deny a stoppage-time Jordan Henderson winner and Jordan Pickford's escaping of censure, one particular statistic that emerged from the fallout of October 17 went quietly under the radar.
That game was the only time Klopp named that trio of Fabinho, Thiago, and Henderson in his midfield. Richarlison's red card for a poor challenge on debutant Thiago would subsequently leave the Spaniard out until after Christmas as a result. By the time he returned to the side, in the late December draw at Newcastle, Fabinho was already being asked to help out a depleted defensive department still reeling from the long-term injuries to Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
And by the time Fabinho, who himself succumbed to a couple of setbacks himself, was afforded the chance to move back into midfield, Henderson's season was already over, having pulled up in the 2-0 defeat to none other than Everton in February.
Yes, it was that kind of campaign for Klopp and his charges last year. This time around, however, hope springs eternal. The departure of Gini Wijnaldum has not forced the club into the market for a replacement so far. And as the debate over that particular bit of wisdom goes on, Klopp is preparing to finally unleash a midfield on the Premier League he feels has the perfect blend of attributes to thrive.
It is why the pursuit of a Wijnaldum replacement has seemingly gone quiet. Those on the inside at Anfield have spoken about Klopp and sporting director, Michael Edwards' desire to recruit players who are capable of going straight into the first team. For more to know About Liverpool vs Arsenal Tickets.
Klopp is not in the business for stockpiling players for the sake of it, meaning any recruit would have to be capable of dislodging the likes of Thiago, Fabinho, and Henderson, all key men in teams who have won the Champions League in the last two years.
That, then, is the conundrum Liverpool is faced with on the midfielder front, particularly while there is a limit to the budget. This season, though, Liverpool fans will at least be treated to a new midfield, of sorts. Even if it was only the surreal events of the last term that kept them from viewing it in full flow over the last year or so.
On paper, the trio combines all the skills needed for a vibrant and fearsome engine room. At the base, Fabinho's defensive nous, strength, and comfort in possession give the Reds a solid, sturdy platform to build their attacks from. The No.3 has established himself as one of the leading defensive midfielders in English football over the last three seasons and Liverpool's upturn in fortunes towards the end of the campaign - winning eight of a 10-game unbeaten stretch - was largely down to his return to his natural position.
To his left, Thiago. Arguably the most high-profile signing of Liverpool's Premier League era, the two-time Champions League winner arrived 11 months ago fresh from a Man of the Match display for Bayern Munich in their European Cup triumph just a few weeks earlier. The injury at Goodison Park was damaging but so was the inability to play in front of a 'proper' backline alongside the midfielders he joined the club to feature with.
Like many others, Thiago stumbled at the turn of the year as the Reds' form took a nosedive that would see them lose six successive games at Anfield for the first time in club history. As spring rolled in, however, the Spain international began to find his feet and turned in several assured performances.
The 2-1 win over West Brom in May will always be remembered for the heroics of a certain Alisson Becker, but Thiago purred that day at the Hawthorns in the same way he did in a 4-2 win over Manchester United earlier that week. He showed no signs of wilting on his maiden trip to Turf Moor either as the Reds won 3-0 at Burnley before sewing up a top-three finish with a comfortable victory at home to Crystal Palace on the final day of a testing term in the Premier League.
A goal in the 2-0 win over Southampton in early May also saw him break his season-long duck and the feeling around Anfield is that the former Barcelona youngster will truly take flight alongside Henderson and Fabinho in front of a back four that will contain two of Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip. For more to know About Liverpool Vs Manchester City Tickets.
To Thiago's right, Henderson will patrol Liverpool's midfield for the 11th straight season. The captain may have seen his name attributed to some surprise headlines around his Liverpool future of late, but the England international will be raring to go this season. He, like everyone else in the squad, will be hurt by how the Premier League title Liverpool worked so hard for was relinquished.
A stuttering run of form at the turn of the year that coincided with the injury crisis biting meant that the Reds had little chance to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City like they had done a previous couple of campaigns. Henderson will have been distraught at how his season ended too after he limped off with a groin problem while deputizing as an emergency center-back in their first defeat to Everton over 10 years back in February.
The PFA Players' Player of the Year a little over 12 months ago, Henderson will be hellbent on wrestling back the crown he and his teammates fought so hard for when the action gets going later this month. With precision, power, and persistence, Liverpool's 'new-look midfield' might just have it all this season.
